The short version

01Who we are

Momentum ("Momentum", "we", "us") is a gym workout logger for Android, published on Google Play. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Momentum app and this website.

If you have any questions, contact us at hello.momentum@octane.team.

02Data stored on your device

By default, Momentum is local-first: the data you create stays on your device and is never sent to us. This includes:

  • Your training plan, split and exercise choices
  • Logged workouts, sets, weights and reps
  • Personal records, streaks and activity history
  • Bodyweight entries you choose to log
  • App settings and preferences (units, rest timer, reminders)

If you never enable an account or cloud sync, this data does not leave your phone. Uninstalling the app removes it.

03Account & cloud sync (optional)

If you unlock and enable cloud sync, you can sign in with Google and back up your training data so it syncs across devices. In that case we process:

  • Your email address and basic Google profile (name and account id) used to sign you in
  • A copy of your training data listed above, so it can be backed up and synced

This data is stored with our backend provider, Supabase, under access rules that limit each account to its own data. Sign-in is handled through Google. If you don't enable these features, none of this applies.

04Purchases

Momentum offers a one-time, pay-what-you-want unlock. Payments are processed by Google Play Billing, and purchase status is managed through RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your purchase and an anonymous purchase identifier so we can unlock your features and restore them later. We never see or store your card or payment details. Those stay with Google.

05Reminders & notifications

If you turn on workout reminders, they are scheduled as local notifications on your device. They do not require us to collect or store anything about you on a server.

06Advertising

The free version of Momentum shows ads served by third-party ad partners. To deliver and measure ads, those partners may collect and process information such as your device advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location, device details and your interactions with ads. This is handled under each ad partner's own privacy policy.

If you buy the one-time unlock, ads are removed and you are no longer served ads.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID, and limit ad personalisation, in your Android settings at any time.

What we still never do: we don't sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we don't collect data you didn't choose to give us beyond what's needed to run the app and show ads in the free version.

07How we use data

We only use the limited data above to:

  • Run the app's features (your plan, logging, progress and reminders)
  • Show ads in the free version (removed once you unlock)
  • Sign you in and sync your data, if you enable an account
  • Unlock and restore purchases
  • Keep the service secure and fix problems

08Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to deliver the optional features above. They process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy terms:

  • Google (sign-in and Play Billing). Read their policy
  • Supabase (authentication and cloud sync storage). Read their policy
  • RevenueCat (purchase management). Read their policy
  • Ad partner (serving ads in the free version). [partner and policy link to be added]

09Retention

Local data is kept on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you use cloud sync, your synced data is kept until you delete it in the app or ask us to remove your account, after which it is deleted from our backend within a reasonable period.

10Your rights & choices

  • Access & export. Export your workouts, bodyweight history or a full backup from within the app at any time
  • Delete. Reset your data in the app, or uninstall to remove local data. For synced data, delete it in the app or email us to delete your account
  • Withdraw. Turn off sync or sign out at any time

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data. To exercise any of these, contact hello.momentum@octane.team.

11Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections to our providers and access rules that keep each account's synced data private. No system is perfectly secure, but keeping data on-device by default means there is very little to expose in the first place.

12Children

Momentum is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

13International transfers

If you use the optional account features, your data may be processed on servers operated by our providers in other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

14Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll make it clear in the app or on this page.
